Email Deliverability: Halo technique

There isn’t a more important time of year to ensure your marketing messages end up in inboxes rather than spam and trash folders. One deliverability technique we would recommend to avoid such dramas is the Halo technique, this helps both make sure mail is delivered during busy periods such as Black Friday but also can help with improving deliverability in the long term.

This involves segmenting your contacts by most engaged to least engaged and sending each campaign to them in that order. You can do this within the campaign in Ometria by using variants, and staggering the start time of the variants.

First: As a general guide we would start with 3 engagement segments:

1. engaged in the last 30 days

2. engaged in last 90 days

3. engaged in last 180 days

If you are sending to 180 day + engaged contacts then those can be a 4th segment.

Next: When creating your campaign, ensure you create a separate broadcast variant for each engagement segment.

You can always send the same template to all variants by selecting Copy to variants.

Finally: Schedule each broadcast variant to send 30 minutes apart.

If you begin sending a campaign to your highest-quality, engaged contacts, it creates a halo effect that extends to all the email addresses in the delivery, placing more emails into inboxes and helping your domain reputation in the long term.

Thinking of applying the Halo technique consistently? Remember to save the segmentation as a blueprint to safeguard your time.

Yet another product release to tell you about! This time it’s our new integration with Swym, a Shopify and BigCommerce app which can send wishlist, back in stock, save for later and price drop events, to name a few, to Ometria.

The huge benefit is your business can use these custom events as entry triggers for your automation campaigns without the need for your development team allocating precious resources to set up each event using Ometira’s API.

Within a flash you’ll enable super-targeted, highly relevant communications with your contact base to drive more sales with the following:

  • Automatic wishlist reminder emails
  • Back in stock alerts on restocked wishlist products
  • Event-triggered price drop campaigns for wishlist products
  • Event-triggered low stock alerts for wishlist products
  • Back in stock campaigns for alert subscribers
  • Send share wishlist and account authorization emails via your Ometria account

Check out the full list of custom events available to you through the new Swym integration here and enable your marketing team to drive more revenue whilst creating delightful user experiences through each contact's relevant marketing channels.
